Preparation of PDA@AP composite particles by two‐step method and its application in glycidyl azide polymer‐energetic thermoplastic elastomer propellants

Abstract Polydopamine (PDA) has been widely used in the field of energetic materials; however, there are few reports on ammonium perchlorate (AP) coating PDA. In this article, to improve mechanical properties GAP‐ETPE‐based propellant, a two‐step method was coat AP with PDA and glycidyl azide polymer (GAP) based propellant. SEM, EDS, XRD, XPS were analyze morphology composition PDA@AP, while contact angle testing calculation performed measure wettability surface energy both PDA@AP GAP‐ETPE. addition, tensile strength elongation propellant measured. The results showed that composite particles successfully prepared. crystal form remained unchanged during preparation process. improved through PDA, leading an increase enhancing adhesion between GAP. Mechanical performance shows using propellants increased from 1.2 1.8 MPa, at break decreased 208% 155%. “dewetting ratio” also 2.88 below 2.5.
